About this place
Set in Toyosu Market’s Fisheries Wholesale Market Building, Rokumeiken offers unpretentious Japanese-style Western dishes amid the market’s seafood-focused eateries. It retains the familiar, down-to-earth flavours that won it a following in its former Tsukiji location, serving hot meals from 8:00 until 14:00.
Savoury butter-grilled dishes and freshly fried favourites
The menu features a varied selection of main dishes served as set meals. Scallops grilled with butter and squid grilled with butter are among the popular choices: their rich buttery flavour and lightly browned edges make an appealing match for a bowl of steamed rice. There is also a generous selection of fried dishes, including horse mackerel, prawns and salmon. Their light, crisp coating is served with shredded cabbage for a satisfying meal that doesn’t take long to enjoy. Meat dishes broaden the choice, too, from pork ginger-fried with a sweetish sauce to a tender hamburger steak and minced-meat cutlet. There’s plenty to choose from to suit the mood of the day.
A relaxed, partly self-service setting
The owner runs the unpretentious, calm dining room with an efficient hand. Some steps are self-service: diners get their own water, collect their meals and return their trays after eating. Most set meals are affordably priced at around 800 yen, making the restaurant a practical choice for a hearty breakfast or an easy solo lunch. Payment is cash only, so it’s worth having some coins or ¥1,000 notes ready if you stop in during a visit to the market.
